Do You Worry About a Bus Crashing Through Your yoga Studio?

A number of years ago, a story appeared in the Los Angeles times. It seems a man was sitting in his living room one Sunday afternoon, feet propped up, watching TV, eating chips and drinking a soda. Totally relaxed, thoroughly enjoying his day. Not a care in the world. Suddenly, without warning, the wall of his living room explodes into pieces as a Los Angeles city bus crashes into his home before coming to an abrupt stop. The man is unharmed, still sitting there with his feet up and a corn chip in hand. But now with a look of utter disbelief on his face as he stares into the tall glass windshield of the bus which is now facing him from where his TV used to be.

Some of us are prepared for such occurrences we anticipate they will happen and we are sure to build walls that not even a bus can penetrate. That's ridiculous. What is he talking about?, you ask. You see, many of us spend hours of our days (not only while awake, but also in dreams), worrying about anything and everything that can possibly go wrong. Okay, so maybe planning to deal with a city bus crashing into your studio is a bit much, but think about all the things that you worry about which may not be as extreme, but still hurt your business. (More on the bus story in a minute) I know studio owners who say things like:

I won't hire anyone new because they might not work out and then I'd need to fire them. (I'll stick with the mediocre staff I have at least I know their weaknesses)
I don't want to implement an auto-renew program because someone might not like it and tell all their friends that they didn't know they were on an auto-renew program and then no one will come to my studio anymore.
I don't want to sell merchandise (even what we use in class), because then I'd need to figure out what to do if someone didn't like what they bought and returned it. If this happened a lot, I could lose money. I'd better not sell anything.
I don't want to put out an email newsletter because if I write about a student and make a mistake they could complain and even sue me.

My question to you is this: Where in your own life (business or personal) do you spend time and energy worrying about things that might possibly go wrong? How much emotional energy does this take each week? How much time?

When we focus on what might go wrong, we defeat ourselves. First, we use up time and emotional energy. Next, if you follow the law of attraction, we attract into our lives exactly what we don't want. Also, if you devoted all this time and emotional energy to achieving something that you do want as a part of your studio (or of your life), imagine what could you achieve? There is a big difference between playing at life to not lose and playing to win. Virtually anyone in history who make any kind of a difference in the world played to win. Think of Gandhi, Mother Theresa, The Dalai Lama, or whomever you personally admire. Henry Ford once said Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eye off the goal.

So, how do we choose what to devote time and energy to? I often recommend a simple model, called the Circle of Influence. Imagine there is a circle around you. Inside the circle is everything in your life that concerns you AND which you have a reasonable degree of influence over. Things like the friends you have, what you eat for lunch, what you spend your money on, what type of work you've chosen, etc. Outside of this circle are all those things that you care about maybe very deeply but which you have very little or no influence over. This might be national or world politics, the weather, what choices most other people make in their lives, etc.

Now you get to make a choice. Once you've made this distinction, you may choose to focus nearly all of your time, energy and resources on those things within your circle. Sure, you care deeply about those things outside of your circle, but spending time worrying about them won't improve them. On the contrary, often when we focus on things inside our circle, it expands. Soon we find that we have more influence in the world than we did before. What things in your studio and in your life fall inside your circle of influence, and what falls outside of it?

The bottom line is this. Spend nearly all your time, energy and focus on the goal you want to reach. Only deal with those potential obstacles that clearly lie ahead in your path. As far as the guy with the bus in his living room goes, it turns out that the bus was stolen. In fact because it was stolen, the city refused to take responsibility for the damage. In the end, you can't prepare for everything. You can waste a lot of time trying, but there will always be the chance that a bus drives though your living room. Deal with what you need to and trust the rest will work out. If I might make a request: What is one area of your studio that you stress about, but which you could realistically let go of and be willing to just let go of worrying about? Okay, now do it I know if feels like a giant leap sometimes, but remember, many great souls have already proven this path for you. Go in peace.

European Short Term Car Leasing

An extended vacation, where you can drive around Europe and explore off the beaten path, can be an achievable dream. If you are considering a European vacation where you will have much more freedom and flexibility than with a guided tour, driving a car through Europe can be the ultimate vacation experience. The best and least expensive way to achieve this is through short term car leasing.

Short term car leasing involves buying a new car straight from the factory while you are in Europe, and ending the lease by having the car manufacturer buy back the car when you are ready to leave. There are two main companies in Europe that participate in this program, Renault Eurodrive, and Peugeot. This method of driving a car on your vacation has many benefits and only a few restrictions.

The main factor you will want to consider is how long puffy nipples you will need the vehicle. For a short term lease, you will need to lease the vehicle for at least 17-21 days, depending on the manufacturer. These programs work well if you have a long puffy nippleser trip planned, and want to use the vehicle for at least three weeks or so. You will be able to keep the vehicle for close to six months, which allows for a nice long puffy nipples vacation. The other requirement is that you have a permanent address that is not in the European Union. As long puffy nipples as you are living in the US, Canada, or a similar county not in the EU, you will meet this requirement.

There are many benefits to leasing as opposed to renting a car in Europe. First, you will have a new vehicle, so you can be assured its in good shape. If there are any mechanical problems, you will also have 24 hour roadside assistance included in your package.

One of the major benefits with short term leasing is the cost. By leasing, you will avoid the value-added tax (VAT) that can make up to 20 percent of a car rental fee in Europe. You will also get complete insurance without having to pay any additional fees for collision damage waivers. Unlike a rental car, you will protected from paying out of pocket if the vehicle is damaged without having to get additional insurance.

For many tourists, another benefit is the lack of age restrictions that normally accompany traditional car rentals. As long puffy nipples as you are over 18, you can lease a vehicle, and more importantly, there are no maximum age limits. With car rental companies, many have a cut-off age of 70, and they won't rent to anyone older, or let anyone older drive the vehicle.

Starting and ending the lease process is simple. You can reserve your car, and complete most of the paperwork online, before you even leave for your vacation. When finished, you will be able to drop your vehicle off at a variety of locations that are convenient to your departure.

If you are planning an extended holiday, short term car leasing should be your first choice. You will have a lot of flexibility, and receive major savings over renting. If you need an excuse to extend your vacation to the required leasing period of three weeks or so, your car savings may help make up the costs of additional vacation time.

Are You A Renegade Creative Entrepreneur & Don't Know It? This Will Help

Making The Business Of Art The Art Of Business

How many times have you heard it said capitalize on what you have.....or the diamonds are right in front of your nose?, etc.

There are a million or more tired old cliche's in the world of business.

But do these principals apply to those of us who might be considered renegade entrepreneurs? What is a renegade entrepreneur, you may ask?

You might be and not even know it.

I remember years ago, (am fifty two now), when my peers were studying to be doctors, lawyers, pharmacists or even great ambitions to make big bucks in the real estate or insurance (or some other business).

Some of us were back then (as now) on the road less traveled. We were too busy thinking of what could be rather than what is. We were not satisfied unless we were reinventing the wheel, more than once if need be.

My family business is real estate and my brother holds the reigns to a thriving century old family company. He gets fulfillment and happiness from it.

I tried it for several years and was bored out of my mind. I cannot count how many businesses I tried, sales job I endured, demeaning jobs in which I squeaked by, etc. I always felt I was a writer/artist at heart whether I was selling real estate or advertising.

Hence a great deal of inner struggle and disappointment.

Which step of the ladder are you on in your business? Have you started the first one yet?

If not, let's go back to basics. What is right in front of you? Do you see diamonds? Do you see gold? If not, that's okay. It is time for a self-assessment.

Perhaps you loved doing something when you were younger but you didn't find any support or approval for doing it. Time went by, maybe you married and had children and found what job was available to support them. The dream or dreams became fleeting. Maybe you don't even remember them, or do, but try to forget them to put on the heir of fulfillment and/or happiness.

But only you know inside if working for a corporation, or even the business you are in is the right one. Are you feeling happy about it? Do you jump out of bed waiting for the next day?

I will admit, though I finally found myself in cartooning late in life, it was no easy trek. I went down many roads (mostly already paved for me) before discovering these roads were the kiss of death for my entrepreneurial spirit.

One might as well have thrown my in prison. Wherever I was I felt like it. I reluctantly handed

out business cards and smiled in every profession, hoping, if I learned enough in any of them, I would find that elusive bird called happiness.

Even when I was making excellent money, if I was in a job I didn't enjoy, I was miserable.

One day, I sat down with a pen and piece of paper. I wrote down all the dreams I'd cast aside due to others wishes and/or desires for me.

I remember years ago, when I was in junior college in Dallas, I was reading the comics in the Dallas Morning News. I thought to myself, I'm not a great artist, but I sure know how to come up with concepts and write as good as most of these. I decided to write a few and show them to my mom. She frowned and I got the message quickly before she had a chance to even say Study your Western Civ!!!

It is amazing what remains in our souls and psyche. I will never forget that shattered dream. I knew it was something I could do well, if only given the chance.

Fast forward thirty years. I was out of a job yet again, (and not a very good one at that).

I decided then and there I was going to start my own cartoon. I had written several thousand of them but was not satisfied with my artwork. I didn't realize at the time I was then at step one of my new business venture; and it turned out it was and is one of the biggest businesses (relatively unknown) in the U.S., Image Licensing. That would not happen for almost another decade however.

I continued to take odd jobs and write my cartoons. By then I was working with a team of very talented artists, willing to take a risk on my concepts. My website was becoming popular so I had something to offer up on the table....exposure. And exposure they got. By 2005 the site was in the Alexa Top 100K most visited sites on the Internet. It has received 6.5 million visitors since its beginnings in 1997.

But still no consistent income; only the occasional publishing sell to a trade magazine or newspaper.

My better half, Rosy, asked me, Why don't you try merchandising? I had tried it several times to no avail, but I didn't use the basic business principal, maybe the most important in sales....numbers. I had learned in one of my dreaded sales jobs It's all a numbers game, the more you call the more you sell.

This time rather than giving up after twenty or so calls, I called hundreds. More rejection. After about three hundred calls, a YES!

Londons Times Cartoon Superstore was launched in September of 2006 and has been profitable every month but one since it's beginnings. The manufacturer does all the work, promotion at shopping channels such as Shopzilla and Shop.com, Amazon, Ebay, etc. They showcase about 60,000 products with our images in twenty three categories.

Further study showed me that there was also a more upscale fan base wanting higher quality merchandise. I shopped to find there are several tee shirt on demand companies (which also manufacture other products such as tote bags, mousepads, coasters, etc.) such as Cafepress, Printfection, and others. I studied them all carefully and chose Printfection due to their excellent quality and customer service.

So now two stores later, one ecard site, and the cartoon site is still up and running.

Suddenly I found myself a true renegade entrepreneur. I had reached goals beyond what I thought I would.

Was it easy? Of course not. Was it rocket science? Nope. It was and is a continuity. Hard work.

Always promoting, always writing (such as now), and keeping my eye on the ball.

Remembering the diamonds (or gold) were right in front of me all the time. I simply let a caring loved one talk me out of it.

Now I think before I take any action regarding my career. It's not just image licensing or the business or art. It is the art of business. And I can now make major decisions and have the mobility and income to do so.

You can do the same thing. Maybe not in cartooning. That may or may not be your forte'. But try to remember a dream or dream you had before you ended up in the position you are.

Chances are it happened before the Internet was founded and information on how to launch and promote your business was not yet available.

I started Londons Times cartoons on less than $300 ten years ago. Now, with blogs, article marketing, Google, and so much more that was not available then, I probably could have started it today with much less (using a lot more sweat equity and taking it more seriously from the start).

I never imagined for a moment it might become a success. Now you can do the same.
